What to wear this holiday season

’Tis the season to be jolly, to make merry, carouse. But what to wear – full-on party sequins, red velvet, shine and sparkle? Or none of the above. If in doubt, go for one piece and build from there.

Here are some ideas, from dressed-up party, to after-work drinks and dinner to more laid-back at-home attire, all anchored by Ops, including our newest, Lurex Black. All of these options will work long past the holidays and can be worn any time of the year, because who decided you can’t wear sequins in June?

1. After work out on the town

Everyone ramps it up some this time of year, so don’t be afraid to glam up for post-office dos (see main pic).

  • Tailoring: Serena Bute’s green velvet trousers and jacket are a great base for colour blocking with Joseph’s Lurex sweater and patterns, such as Baukjen’s printed top. No16 Gold Duo add a gilded finish.
  • Statement: Souer’s black leather A-line dress is effortlessly slick, keep it tonal and wear No10 Lurex Black for instant impact.
  • Classic: Leopard print is a perennial favourite and the collar and cuff detail on Rixo’s wool jacket offers a vintage vibe. Wear with Reiss gold metallic trousers and paisley blouse for pure glamour and No17 Ruby for an extra luxe kick.
2. At-home cocktail parties and get-togethers

Think relaxed polish with pieces that show confidence but feel comfortable. Ops super-soft Lurex No10s are the ideal partner.

  • Co-ords: ba&sh patterned velvet trousers and cotton tunic add lush drama, while Hobbs gold and black kilt pairs gloriously with APC’s metallised sweater. Anchor with No10 Lurex Black.
  • Separates: Go for old-school bows with House of Sunny peggy sweater and ruffle blouse by Nixa, or Belleroses’s seasonal red angora. Mix and match all with M&S velvet trousers and No10 Lurex White.
  • One-piece: Toast’s cotton silk printed dress is cosy elegance at its best. No10 Lurex Blue adds another level of sheen.
3. Party blowout

Pared back or dialled up, both work a treat.

  • Drama: Go long with ME+EM’s metallic cowl-neck maxi or short with 16Arlington’s marabou cuffed mini, both work a charm with No10 Lurex Black.
  • Monochrome: Pair Arket’s midi bubble skirt with Sonia Rykiel’s silver-trimmed sweater for holiday chic finished with a pop of No11 Yellow Gold.
  • Razzle dazzle: Metallics all the way with Aligne’s puff-sleeve blouse and Weekend MaxMara’s silver shirt teamed with Bella Freud velvet trousers. Top with Lizou sequinned jacket and finish with No16 Silver Rose polish.
