Eye Candy: Tonite at the Cinema with Ops & Ops
We’ve spoken before how films and film heroines have been huge inspiration for us – our No16 boot and Barbarella a prime example. Sometimes it’s a scene or a piece of dialogue or music, and sometimes it’s the whole reel and running time.
Tonite Lets’ All Make Love in London is one of those. A 1967 documentary written and directed by Peter Whitehead, it’s a snapshot of 60s ‘Swinging London’ and everything that went with it.
An opening montage is followed by a who’s-who of the era’s most famous faces. Alongside ordinary folk, they offer a glimpse into their worlds all set to a backdrop of Pink Floyd, The Animals, The Rolling Stones and The Small Faces.
Vanessa Redgrave at the height of her political activism; Andrew Loog Oldham in the studio with Vashti and Julie Christie on her favourite things.
Dollygirls talking love in Biba; Edna O’Brien on monogamy; Alan Aldridge body-painting; David Hockney questioning the significance of the scene; and models Peggy Moffitt and Donyale Luna shopping Portobello Market. All interspersed with scenes of protest and liquid lightshow club nights.
And there is so much more. Watch on YouTube, or if you’re in London, you can catch it on the big screen at the Regent Street cinema on Saturday 23 May.
